Project Overview
- Client: STH Machinery Maintenance (Warsaw, Poland)
- Project: Supply of 3 Sets of portable gantry cranes 5 Ton Capacity
- Supplier: DQCRANES
- Location: Machinery Maintenance Workshop, Warsaw, Poland
- Date: Q2 2025
Client Background & Challenge
STH Machinery Maintenance is a leading service provider for heavy industrial machinery used in Poland's manufacturing and processing sectors. Their large workshop in Warsaw frequently handles motors, gearboxes, hydraulic units, and structural components weighing up to 5 tons. Their primary challenges were:
Limited Fixed Infrastructure: Existing
overhead cranes couldn't cover all workshop areas, especially corners, assembly bays, and outdoor inspection zones.
Rigid Workflow: Heavy lifts were confined to specific crane bays, causing bottlenecks and inefficient movement of components.
Space Constraints: Permanent crane structures were impractical for areas needing clear floor space or temporary work setups.
Cost of Permanent Solutions: Installing additional fixed crane coverage across the vast workshop was prohibitively expensive.
Need for Versatility: Required lifting solutions adaptable to various component sizes and locations within the workshop and adjacent yards.
After evaluating several crane manufacturers, the client selected DQCRANES for our ability to provide customized and cost-effective portable gantry cranes that meet European standards.
Workshop Gantry Crane Solutions from DQCRANES
After evaluating STH's specific workflow, spatial constraints, and lifting requirements, DQCRANES recommended and supplied three (3) sets of 5 ton
mobile gantry cranes. This
portable crane solution directly addressed their core challenges:
- Crane 1: Span 4.0 meters, Lifting Height 4.1 meters
- Crane 2: Span 5.0 meters, Lifting Height 4.5 meters
- Crane 3: Span 7.0 meters, Lifting Height 4.5 meters
Key Features & Customization:
- Modular Portability: Each lightweight portable gantry crane features heavy-duty lockable castors/wheels (swivel & fixed combinations) enabling easy relocation by a single operator. Brakes ensure stability during lifting operations.
- Optimized Spans: The specific spans (4m, 5m, 7m) were chosen based on the client's common machinery footprints and aisle widths, ensuring the cranes could effectively straddle the workpieces without obstructing adjacent areas.
- Tailored Heights: Heights were carefully calculated (4.1m for the 4m span, 4.5m for the 5m & 7m spans) to provide sufficient hook travel beneath the workshop's existing structures (lights, pipes, lower beams) while maximizing the lift range for components and potential jigs.
- 5-Ton Electric Hoist Integration: Each gantry was equipped with a robust, reliable 5-ton capacity electric chain hoist (compatible with CE/EN standards), providing smooth, precise vertical lifting controlled via pendant.
- Structural Integrity: Fabricated from high-grade structural steel (typically Q235B or equivalent), designed with appropriate safety factors (e.g., FEM 1.001, ISO 4301, EN 14492-2) to handle the 5-ton SWL reliably across the specified spans.
- Safety First: Standard features included overload protection on the hoist, emergency stop buttons, limit switches, and clearly marked SWL labels. Design ensured stability under load when braked.
- Plug-and-Play: Designed for minimal setup – simply wheel into position, lock the brakes, connect the hoist power (standard industrial plug), and operate.
- Rapid Deployment: Designed for quick assembly/disassembly using pins and bolts, the cranes could be set up or moved to a new location within minutes. No complex installation or foundation work required.
Manufacturing & Exporting
The three portable gantries were manufactured at DQCRANES' facility, undergoing rigorous quality control and load testing. Units were partially disassembled for compact shipping. Components were securely packed in wooden crates designed for international freight. Documentation (packing list, commercial invoice, CE certs, assembly & operation manuals) was prepared meticulously.

Shipped via sea freight from China to Gdansk Port, Poland, followed by road transport to Warsaw. DQCRANES managed export customs clearance.
Setup & Commissioning Support
3 sets of
5 ton gantry cranes were delivered to STH's workshop. While designed for easy client assembly, DQCRANES provided detailed manuals and offered optional remote assembly support via video call. STH personnel assembled them efficiently.
Benefits for Poland Maintenance Workshop
- Eliminated Workflow Bottlenecks: Technicians can now bring the crane to the component, drastically reducing time spent moving heavy items to fixed crane bays.
- Maximized Workshop Utilization: Previously unusable areas (corners, wide bays, outdoor spaces) became viable workspaces for heavy repairs.
- Increased Efficiency & Productivity: Significant reduction in lift setup and component movement time translates to faster job turnaround.
- Enhanced Flexibility: Customized height and span allow adaptation to diverse machinery sizes and configurations.
- Cost-Effective Solution: Achieved comprehensive workshop coverage at a fraction of the cost of installing additional permanent overhead cranes.
- Improved Safety: Provided safe, controlled lifting points anywhere needed, reducing reliance on less stable methods like forklifts or improvised rigging for medium-weight components. Dedicated brakes ensure stability during lifts.
- Simplified Maintenance: Easy access to components without disrupting fixed infrastructure or other work areas.
Client Feedback
"
The DQCRANES portable cranes have revolutionized how we work. We're no longer slaves to where the overhead crane is. Moving a 4-ton motor assembly across the shop to the test bay used to take an hour of rigging and coordination. Now, we wheel the gantry over, lift it, and move it ourselves in 15 minutes. The build quality is excellent, they feel incredibly stable, and the adjustability means they fit everywhere. DQCRANES understood our need for flexibility and delivered a perfect, compliant solution." - Marek Kowalski, Workshop Manager, STH Machinery Maintenance
